Animal Portraits

The final project for middle school art students for the 2018-2019 school year was this animal zen tangle painting! Students chose a favorite animal or family pet to create a brightly colored painting! Students needed to effectively use space, pattern  and their knowledge of color schemes to produce a unique animal portrait. The kids loved how these turned out and these got a lot of attention while they were on display in our hallways!

Silberzweig Self-Portraits

Students in Montessori grades 1-3 began the year with these brightly colored self-portraits. We learned about contemporary Canadian artist Sandra Silberzweig and her fantastically colorful works of art. The kids loved using bright colors and patterns while I enjoyed starting the year with a more loose and abstract project. Students got the opportunity to use watercolor paints and draw extra big!

Summer Vibes

Students in grades 1-3 prepared for summer by creating these fun beach artworks before school let out. We began with an ocean painting: students used different types of lines to represent the movement of the ocean. We then learned about fashion design and students created a pair of flip-flops using markers and construction paper. During the final class, students textured a piece of manilla paper and added a sparkly and textured seahorse to the ocean. This lesson was a fun review of pattern and texture that students had a lot of fun with as they prepared for summer vacation!
